Keftedes – Greek Meatballs are Greek comfort food! Like many of our recipes, these are loaded with flavors that include garlic, onion, fresh and dried herbs. They are delicious as an appetizer or as part of a main meal. Serve with our Tzatziki Sauce.
HOW TO MAKE KEFTEDES – GREEK MEATBALLS
- Cut bread into cubes, and add enough water for the bread to soak it up.
- Once the bread has soaked up the water, squeeze out the excess. Chop the onion, and prepare the other ingredients.
- Place all ingredients in a bowl, and combine thoroughly.
- Form equally sized keftedes from your mixture.
- Dredge them in flour, and shake off the excess.
- Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, place them in the frying pan. Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes. Turn over and cover to cook other side for another 3-4 minutes.
- Place the cooked keftedes onto a paper towel covered plate to soak up the excess olive oil.
CAN I USE OTHER GROUND MEATS BESIDES BEEF?
Absolutely! You can use pork, lamb, or a combination of them with beef. All taste great!
WHAT IS THE BEST SIZE TO MAKE MY KEFTEDES?
We use a 1/8 cup measuring cup to make the perfect size keftedes. This recipe should yield about 40 meatballs which are a perfect appetizer size. They also cook faster because they are smaller.
WHAT KIND OF BREAD DO YOU USE?
We like to use day old ciabatta bread that’s had a chance to dry out, but any day old french bread works well.
HOW DO I SERVE THE KEFTEDES?
These are best eaten as soon as they are made. You can serve them as an appetizer, or they can be part of a main meal. They pair perfectly with our Tzatziki Sauce!
