Grilled Fish with Ladolemono is a healthy, lite and flavorful way to enjoy fresh fish. It takes very little time to prepare and the added benefit of cooking it on the grill means very little clean-up!

From Lizz: If you have ever had the opportunity to visit Greece, and specifically the Greek Islands, you will find an abundance of fresh fish readily available. Most often, the fish will be showcased at the entrance to the restaurant and it is quite clear just how fresh it is when you see it.

There is nothing fancy about the way the fish is prepared. In fact, it is very simple. The fish is lightly seasoned with salt, pepper and some extra virgin olive oil and then grilled on an open fire. It is served with some fresh lemon on the side and is typically accompanied by some Ladolemono.

While you will not find the exact same fish in the United States as you do in Greece, you can create a very similar experience by grilling fresh trout or sea bass and serving it with our Ladolemono Dressing. Purchase fish that has already been cleaned from the seafood department of your local grocery store or fishmonger. This will make preparation quick and easy and allow you more time to sit and have a relaxing and healthy meal with your family and friends.

HOW TO MAKE TROUT

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Rinse the fish well with cold water. Pat dry with paper towels. Season the inside and outside of the fish with sea salt and fresh ground pepper.
  2. Brush the outside with some extra virgin olive oil.
  3. Place fish onto a grill pan designed for delicate foods. (You can find one on Amazon here.) Cook fish for 6-7 minutes. Flip and cook on other side for another 6-7 minutes.
  4. Remove from grill and serve with Ladolemono.

WHY SHOULD I USE A GRILL PAN TO COOK THE FISH ON?

A grill pan is designed for small or delicate foods and will help keep the fish from falling apart if otherwise cooked directly on the grill.

HOW DO I PREVENT MY FISH FROM STICKING TO THE GRILL?

Make sure that your grill has had sufficient time to heat before placing the fish onto the grill pan or it will likely stick and tear apart when you try and flip it. Additionally, when the fish is cooked it should easily come off the grill so you can flip over.

I PREFER FISH FILLET SO I DON’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH FISH BONES.

A fish fillet will cook quickly so keep a close eye on it. The times can vary depending on the thickness of the fillet but a general rule is 10 minutes per inch of thickness. The fish should flake easily in the center when it is ready.
